I finished all my finals this morning and couldn’t be happier that it’s winter break! To celebrate, here is the recipe for my holiday-themed Chocolate Eggnog Smoothie! It is (of course) gluten, dairy, soy, and added sugar-free 🙂
Ingredients for 1 serving:
- 1 cup regular, unsweetened almond milk
- 1/2 tsp almond extract
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1 date
- 2 ice cubes
- 1 to 2 tsp raw cacao powder (depending how chocolatey you want your smoothie)
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
All you have to do is blend 🙂
You can also add a banana if you want to thicken your smoothie. A frozen banana works best because you won’t have to add any ice. Or you can add a serving of protein powder to your smoothie to thicken it instead of a banana!
Fun Foodie Fact: Cacao is an unprocessed and uncooked version of cocoa. However, because it is raw, cacao (unlike cocoa) contains many different antioxidants and important nutrients! Cacao has lots of magnesium, zinc, fiber, sulfur, copper, iron, (healthy and vital) fatty acids, and calcium. Using cacao powder is super easy–just toss it into smoothies for amazing chocolate flavor as well as amazing health benefits.
